The Best Ebook Readers

Welcome to the future of reading: The Ebook Reader.
Technology has changed our entire perspectives on how the most mundane and ordinary aspects of life may be managed. No longer do we have to hang out our clothes to dry on a clothesline, or wash our dishes by hand, or even vacuum our floor. Or, lo and behold, read a book!
Today's Ebook Readers are the future of reading and yes sirree, the future is now.Slim in design, lightweight, and Oh-so-convenient, the newest wave in technology brings us to a new way to read, and improves upon it.They challenge our perception of reading. Or rather, how we read a book. Gone are the days where you must chug around an annoyingly heavy book or worse a bag full of books. Now we have a sleek 'tablet' design which can house thousands of books, music, pictures and even (sigh) an audiobook.
Now there will always be those who prefer to grip an actual book in their hands while reading. That is nice in itself, but if you are anything like me, the advantages of having as many books as you possibly could want at your fingertips, the ability to change the size of the wording, and having numerous other functions built into the reader, far outweighs the benefit of hold onto an actual book.
There are a myriad of companies who have delved into the newest technology which is the ebook reader. The Ebook Reader uses E-ink technology which actually prints the words onto the surface of the reader. This allows for the pages to be completely readable in all types of lighting, even in direct sunlight, exactly like a normal book.
Now that we have discussed the various advantages of having an ebook reader, we will compare the top ebook readers on the market today: The Kindle by Amazon and the Sony Ebook Reader. There are of course quite a few other models, but these are the best of the bunch, and so here we go:
1. The AMAZON KINDLE 2:
The Amazon Kindle 2 is the newest model of the kindle released by amazon.Yes, It is slim, even more so than the iPhone! This newest model comes part in parcel with the Whispernet technology which changed the face of downloading books and therefore ebook readers. This technology allows a person to easily download books in a matter of seconds to their kindle ANYTIME and ANYWHERE via a cellphone-like technology. You do not have to be connected to a computer. I repeat, you do not have to be connected to a computer! No cables, no hassles, just easy reading all day long. WOW. And, probably the main reason I give the kindle the best rating is because -to date- no other ebook reader has that technology available. But the improvements go beneath the surface, too. With new features like improved grayscale rendering, faster page turns, a newly formed text-to-speech option, a keyboard, USB charging, and a longer battery life, the Kindle 2 really has outdone itself this time.
If you take all that into account, and then factor in Amazon’s seriously huge content library for the Kindle, it’s difficult to see any other ebook reader out there ranking any higher than the Kindle 2. For now, the Kindle 2 runs head to head with the Sony Reader PRS-505 for title of best ebook reader.
2. SONY READER PRS-505:
The Sony Reader PRS-505 is Amazon Kindles best competitor in the ebook reader market. The PRS-505 does NOT have the Whispernet technology which, in my mind, is what sets the Kindle apart from all other readers. BUT, if you dont live in the USA, then that wont make a difference whatsoever. And really, The PRS-505 is a fabulous reader. It features a variety of colors to choose from, whatever suits your fancy. And it has a very extended battery which can last up to 7500 page turns. Yes, that adds up to a lot of books, people! It also supports a large variety of document formats. This, in my opinion, is what gives it a good run against Amazons Kindle 2. The PRS-505 is compatible with WAY more formats than the kindle. In addition, it does come with a lower price tag than the kindle, AND it kills the Kindle in the looks department. The PRS-505 comes with a very sleek leather bound cover with a front cover which opens and closes to look like a real book. It holds the same as a real book in your hands too. And it weighs less than the Kindle. All in all, it definitely gives the Amazon Kindle 2 a run for the money.
*as a side
note,Sony has also come out with the first ebook reader with
Touchscreen Technology , the PRS-700. When compared to the PRS-505, it
looks slightly prettier, with a larger display and quite a few new
features, such as an included backlight. However, the new additions to
this device pale when concern screen quality. The PRS-700 has the same
E-Ink technology as the PRA-505, but it had to add a second layer on
top of the original screen in order to facilitate the Touchscreen
Technology. This leads to a less-than-perfect screen quality, and it
also adds more glare. In my humble opinion, since the ebook reader is
meant for reading, I cannot rate the PRS-700 higher than the PRA-505.

My one question is the compatability issues. I've only started looking into ebooks and I've been hearing different things. Your hub really helps understand the different ones out there. Thanks.
I have the Kindle 2 and it is amazing!!!. I just got 3 weeks out of the battery. I had the wireless (whispernet) turned off and it took 3 weeks of reading for about an hour a day sometimes more sometimes less to completely drain the battery. Great product and great hub!!
